Prayer: Help us to see the cross at the same time as we stare at the manger. Amen.
Reading: Hebrews 2: 10-18 (Click to read text) Stop and GROW: After reading the text, discuss/ponder the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Book of Faith questions, which are part of Camp Mount Luther's GROW Time with campers. QUESTION 1: What scares, confuses, challenges, or doesn’t make sense to me in this text? QUESTION 2: What delights me in this text or is my favorite part of the story? QUESTION 3: What stories or memories does this text stir in me? QUESTION 4: What is God up to in this text? Reflection: In this week of Christmas festivities and celebrations, this passage is a good reminder for us to not just stare at the manger and be in wonder of the newborn king. While we celebrate Christ’s birth, it’s also important to look toward the cross and the redeeming work that Jesus came to do. It’s easy to get caught up in the celebrations of the happiness of the birth and not focus on the ultimate sacrifice that will take place at the end of Jesus’ lifetime. May we not forget the work that will be done on the cross and glorious resurrection to follow. –Chad Hershberger
