Prayer: Lord, help us to de-clutter, avoid distractions, give our time and grow in you. Amen
Reading: Mark 8: 31-38 (Click to read text) Stop and GROW: After reading the text, discuss/ponder the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Book of Faith questions, which are part of Camp Mount Luther's GROW Time with campers. QUESTION 1: What scares, confuses, challenges, or doesn’t make sense to me in this text? QUESTION 2: What delights me in this text or is my favorite part of the story? QUESTION 3: What stories or memories does this text stir in me? QUESTION 4: What is God up to in this text? Reflection: If you want to effectively do the Lord’s work, you don’t need “stuff’. All you need is yourself and TIME. Use your time wisely. Time is more valuable than “stuff”. Turn off the TV. Put your smart phone in a drawer. These cold winter days it is so easy to withdraw….hibernate, if you will. For some, it is a depressing time. Others escape to football or basketball or this year the Olympics. Jesus tells us to rid ourselves of earthly pleasures. What a better time during these cold winter days than to clean out a closet or two or three and get rid of some of that “stuff’’. At the same time open the door of your heart to friends. Talk to them on the phone, send them a card, include a copy of a favorite poem or a quote from a book. Don"t just text! Share the humble pleasure of yourself and your time! While seeds lie dormant (and bears hibernate), let this be your own personal Grow Time! --Alice Yeakel
