We often reprint prior devotions that now reflect on the coming lectionary texts. This is a reprint from a devotion originally published on August 25, 2013.
Prayer: How majestic is your creation, O Lord. May I enjoy it this day. Amen. Reading: Psalm 8 (Click to read text) Stop and GROW: After reading the text, discuss/ponder the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Book of Faith questions, which are part of Camp Mount Luther's GROW Time with campers. QUESTION 1: What scares, confuses, challenges, or doesn’t make sense to me in this text? QUESTION 2: What delights me in this text or is my favorite part of the story? QUESTION 3: What stories or memories does this text stir in me? QUESTION 4: What is God up to in this text? Reflection: Take a few minutes to close your eyes and listen to the sounds around you. Then, take a few minutes and look at all the things that God has created. Touch objects near you, smell the aromas that fill the air. God does marvelous work, don’t you think? God’s world is complex. When I think of creation and how intricate everything is and how everything works so well together, I am amazed and humbled. How people cannot believe in God by looking at creation is beyond me. As you go through the coming days, look closely at creation. Decide how you can help to preserve our creation. So many people are doing things today, which are destroying God’s wonderful work. How can you be a good steward? --Chad Hershberger
