Prayer: We praise you, O Lord, and make our voices to you know. Help us sing a new song. Amen.

QUESTION 1: What scares, confuses, challenges, or doesn’t make sense to me in this text? QUESTION 2: What delights me in this text or is my favorite part of the story? QUESTION 3: What stories or memories does this text stir in me? QUESTION 4: What is God up to in this text? Reflection: Make a joyful noise to the Lord and sing to the Lord a new song are probably phrases you’ve heard quoted from scripture before. But it strikes me that in this chapter of David’s Psalms that in addition to praising God, there is talk about judgment. Judgment and praise usually do not go hand-in-hand. And, not only are we to praise God but this chapter says all of creation will praise God. The seas, the floods, the mountains and hills. Praising is a part of life! We are reminded, too, that God will judge the world with righteousness and will judge the peoples with equity. That deserves our praise, too, don’t you think? --Chad Hershberger
