Prayer: As we strive to make love the law of our lives, help us to show mercy. Amen.
Reading: 1 Timothy 1:12-17 (Click to read text) Stop and GROW: After reading the text, discuss/ponder the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Book of Faith questions, which are part of Camp Mount Luther's GROW Time with campers. QUESTION 1: What scares, confuses, challenges, or doesn’t make sense to me in this text? QUESTION 2: What delights me in this text or is my favorite part of the story? QUESTION 3: What stories or memories does this text stir in me? QUESTION 4: What is God up to in this text? Reflection: In this passage, we are reminded of mercy. Mercy is shown to us by God who accepts us, despite our sinful nature. And, we are to show mercy to others. I was reading another devotional resource today and the author of that devotion reminded me that we should make love the law of our life. I was thinking about a situation I’ve been dealing with in my life and how maybe I should show some more love and mercy toward a person who is causing the strife in my life. Maybe that would make the situation better for both of us. Think about mercy today. How can you show mercy and love toward others? --Chad Hershberger
