Reading: Matthew 3 Today, I celebrate the day that I was baptized. It is when I became a Child of God. Baptism is when you are marked with the cross of Christ forever. On the day that Jesus Christ was baptized in the Jordan River, the heavens opened up and the Spirit of God descended like a dove. What a special day! Just as that was a special day, my parents made sure that my baptismal day was special for me. Each year we would celebrate by lighting the candle that was given to me when I was baptized. They would buy me a special gift as well, usually from the local Christian bookstore. My baptismal day was like a second birthday. It was the day I was born again into God’s family. Jesus told Nicodemus that you must be born anew to see the kingdom of heaven. He said that you must be born of water and the spirit. Through baptism, we become heirs of the kingdom of heaven. I still celebrate my baptismal days. It definitely is an important day in my life to mark each year. --Chad Hershberger, Camp Mount Luther Director Closing: Pray for those who are preparing for baptism this Lenten season.

My dad used to celebrate the anniversary of young members' baptisms. He'd have a cake to share and a small gift for them during Sunday School.
