On Fridays in March, we look at the scripture that our campers will be studying during Day 3 this summer of “Awesome God. Awesome Love.”
Prayer: When we are faced with trials, help us to know that you are with us, Lord. Keep us safe from the fiery furnaces. Amen. Reading: Daniel 3:13-29; 6:16-23 (Click to read text) Stop and GROW: After reading the text, discuss/ponder the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Book of Faith questions, which are part of Camp Mount Luther's GROW Time with campers. QUESTION 1: What scares, confuses, challenges, or doesn’t make sense to me in this text? QUESTION 2: What delights me in this text or is my favorite part of the story? QUESTION 3: What stories or memories does this text stir in me? QUESTION 4: What is God up to in this text? Reflection: Three men with strange names were sentenced to be burned for refusing to bow down to the king's golden statue. But their faith withstood the heat. They faced the flames with God's name on their lips. And God, in awesome love, kept them safe. Another man, with a common name, was thrown to the lions for praying to God in defiance of the king. His faith didn't flinch. His prayers continued. And God, in awesome love, sent angels to protect him. God calls you by name, too. And God calls you to faith. Faith isn't always easy, but God, in awesome love, is with you and is faithful to the promise of life -no matter what your name! --ELCA Curriculum
