Reading: Stir up your power, Lord Christ, and come. With your abundant grace and might, free us from the sin that binds us, that we may receive you in joy and serve you always, for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen
Stop and GROW: After reading the prayer, discuss/ponder the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Book of Faith questions, which are part of Camp Mount Luther's GROW Time with campers. QUESTION 1: What scares, confuses, challenges, or doesn’t make sense to me in this prayer? QUESTION 2: What delights me in this prayer or is my favorite part? QUESTION 3: What stories or memories does this prayer stir in me? QUESTION 4: What is God up to in this prayer? Reflection: Grace and mercy. Those are the words that delight me. One of Lutheran’s traditional confessions contains the words; we are in bondage to sin and cannot free ourselves. But Jesus came and comes. With grace and mercy. Through His life, teaching, death and resurrection Jesus frees us from the sin that binds us. Stir us up, O Lord, to look for you in every moment of our lives. Even the ugliest of ugly moments. Come, Lord Jesus, with your grace and mercy. --Jim Bricker, Chaplain to Camp Mount Luther’s Summer Staff
