Today, we look at a Day 2 text from this year’s summer curriculum, “Boundless: God Beyond Measure.”
Reading O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever. O give thanks to the God of gods, for his steadfast love endures forever. O give thanks to the Lord of lords, for his steadfast love endures forever; who alone does great wonders, for his steadfast love endures forever; who by understanding made the heavens, for his steadfast love endures forever; who spread out the earth on the waters, for his steadfast love endures forever; who made the great lights, for his steadfast love endures forever; the sun to rule over the day, for his steadfast love endures forever; the moon and stars to rule over the night, for his steadfast love endures forever; who struck Egypt through their firstborn, for his steadfast love endures forever; and brought Israel out from among them, for his steadfast love endures forever; with a strong hand and an outstretched arm, for his steadfast love endures forever; who divided the Red Sea in two, for his steadfast love endures forever; and made Israel pass through the midst of it, for his steadfast love endures forever; It is he who remembered us in our low estate, for his steadfast love endures forever; and rescued us from our foes, for his steadfast love endures forever; who gives food to all flesh, for his steadfast love endures forever. O give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever. (Psalm 136:1-14, 23-26) Reflection “Love Beyond Measure” is the theme for our second day of camp each week this summer. As we look at how God is very big, we’ll look at how God’s love is neverending. That’s really daunting for me to think about. I have loved some in my life where it seems really big. But, God’s love is bigger. And even though we might not truly understand the depth and breadth of God’s love, we have to acknowledge it. That’s what David is telling us in this psalm. Give thanks to God for that big love. The psalmist gives us some examples and I’m sure you can think of some examples from your life. Isn’t it great to know that the steadfast love of God will endure forever? --Chad Hershberger Prayer We give thanks, Lord, for you are good, and your steadfast love endures forever. Amen.
