Prayer: Dear Lord, Thank you for another day in your creation. Help us to recognize the grace that you give us each day. Thank you for sending your son to save us and for showing us patience and love. Amen.
Reading: 1 Timothy 1:12-17 (Click to read text) Stop and GROW: After reading the text, discuss/ponder the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America's Book of Faith questions, which are part of Camp Mount Luther's GROW Time with campers. QUESTION 1: What scares, confuses, challenges, or doesn’t make sense to me in this text? QUESTION 2: What delights me in this text or is my favorite part of the story? QUESTION 3: What stories or memories does this text stir in me? QUESTION 4: What is God up to in this text? Reflection: The author of 1 Timothy is the Apostle Paul. Paul is very clear in this passage that he is sinful. He even goes as far as to say that he is the foremost of sinners or in other words sinner #1, the biggest sinner. He is aware of his sin and the effect it has on his life. BUT more importantly he is aware of the love and grace that comes from Jesus and his death and resurrection. He is aware of the patience that God has with him (and us) as sinners, and the undeserving love we receive. He gives glory to God because of this, and he is humbled by this knowledge. I am very sinful, and I think I can learn a lot from Paul. He is showing us how important it is to be humble and give glory to God because of the grace he gives us even with our sinful nature. How have you seen Christ’s mercy, grace, and patience in your life? How can we show others? --Grace Roux
